Underprivileged Students
Guru Nanak Public School and Junior College is situated in the premises of Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar. The school also offers education to underprivileged children along with other children of the society. The school educates these underprivileged children in a separate section. Here, every child is given utmost attention on personal hygiene in the formative years and on the development of social, cultural and moral values.

Apart from providing free education, the school runs a number of welfare programs for these economically backward children like free books, free uniform, transportation, extra coaching, milk and one-time meal at the langar. The teachers really work hard with them so that basic concepts are clear to these children. At primary level, 3R’s –Reading, Writing and Arithmetic are given utmost importance. Besides academics, stress is put on extra-curricular activities like debate- competition, painting-competitions, singing and dance-activities etc. There are regular art and craft activities, basketball practice and classes for learning shabad-kirtan. The main purpose is to make learning interesting so that children remember school life as a happy experience.

Our AIM is to bring these children at par with children from other sections of the society. At the end of every year the performance of children from this section is reviewed and children found fit and suitable for the regular school are shifted to the same and others continue with the open schooling. During the year 2012-2013 students from this section appeared for SSC examination externally.

We strive to give true learning by inculcating principles of Sikhism and groom them in an atmosphere where every creed and faith is allowed to flourish. Proximity to the divine place i.e. Gurudwara helps in grooming these children in a religious atmosphere. While children have meals at the langar, they are educated about the concept of ‘sewa’ (service) that needs to be performed as a service to God.
